SEVENTH SON

Think of me as lunar night;
The silver in my hair
Is shot with iridescence, maid
Perhaps you should beware?
Accept the cautions you perceive
And all the warnings, do believe;
Mild romance within your sight
May lead you to despair.

Moonlight, moonlight;
Seventh son
Pass me by and call it done!

Step aside and leave the track
If I am walking there;
Catch not my gaze in shy salute
In case I find you fair.
Answer not my slanting smile
You know my nature's to beguile,
If I meet you, turn your back
No matter when, or where.

Moonlight, moonlight,
Silver sage
Name me not, nor call me 'mage'.

I have warned you, as I should
That I am not for you
If you ignore my warning, girl,
Be sure my word is true;
The magic hissing in my veins
Is quite inborn, and unrestrained
I would not quench it if I could-
And none may ask me to.

Moonlight, moonlight,
Willow wand
One foot here, and one beyond.

I see you by the rowan tree
With iron in your shoe,
But since I am no fairy, love
It's not protecting you;
A seventh son cannot be healed
Of all the magic he may wield
And free of it I'll never be
No matter what you do.

Moonlight, moonlight,
Bolt and bow
Sky above me, earth below.

To smile at me? It is unwise
Oh love, you know the score;
Rebellion is a foolish path
But I shall say no more;
If by choice you give your hand
Be sure that none shall understand!
But there's a welcome in your eyes
I've not seen that before.

Moonlight, moonlight,
Running stream
Would you, could you share my dream?

Should you put your hand in mine
Then shall you close the door,
On life the way it would have been;
You must be very sure;
That you can walk an altered beat
When all the stars are at our feet,
And moonlight in your eyes may shine
On my perpetual shore.

Moonlight, moonlight;
Take a chance
Here's the music; shall we dance?
